Congratulations to our very own Matthew Westerholm, a GRTS student  who arranged a song, “The Power of the Cross,” on Heather Hadley’s CD, which Sunday night won a Grammy for best contemporary R & B/gospel album.  Matt also got his picture taken with Taylor Swift (he prudently avoided being photographed next to a half naked Beyonce), so he is probably too good to ever stop by this blog again.  But if you know Matt and want to offer your congratulations, I will deliver your well wishes to his people, who will see that he gets them (can’t promise that he will read them, as he no longer takes directions from me).

Matt’s next project, should he accept it, is to expunge all the Platonic elements from our hymns and choruses.  Wish him luck, and the long life he will need to complete it.

    In class Monday night, Matt insisted that we all avert our eyes and sit in such a way that his head was higher than everyone else’s head. I thought he was preparing for an upcoming role as the King of Siam, but I guess he was just enjoying the “prestige” of (indirectly) winning an “award” as respected as a Grammy. This puts him in the same category as Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus.

    In all seriousness, though, Matt: congrats on being honored for the wise use of the gifts God has given you. Since you are now an indirect Grammy winner and a presenter on par with Richard Mouw, I think you’ve earned some advanced standing credits toward your degree.

    First of all, I did NOT win a Grammy. I’ve arranged many songs which not even my mom liked, and producer Keith Thomas needs to be given all the cred for making that whole album (including my original arrangement) sparkle.

    Secondly, Heather HEADLEY is a better believer than she is a singer—and she’s a world class singer. Hearing her sing is like watching Tiger with a golf club. Oops. I need to download the update patch on my analogy software.

    For those of you who don’t know Dr. Wittmer’s sense of humor, NO,I was not at the ceremony.

    For those of you who don’t know Jonathan’s sense of humor – – – scratch that. For those of you who DO know Jonathan’s sense of humor, please provide me with the secret decoder ring.:-) Holy Rosetta Stone, Batman! Your cultural allusions are more noumenal than Dennis Miller at a . . . at a—oh well. It fell apart on me.

    The guy who connected Whitney Houston with the Remonstrants finds my cultural allusions too “noumenal”? Wow – I need to get a dictionary to find out whether I should be insulted or not. But if I bring to mind Dennis Miller, it can’t be all that bad. Can it?
