Every Christmas the Wittmers play a game of backyard basketball, and every Christmas the game ends pretty much like this. That’s my older brother, Tim, lying on the ground after taking an inadvertent elbow to the sternum. As you can see, he is pretty dramatic.

For the record, I barely touched your wimpy shoulder, and anyone playing football should expect to be blocked. It was a clean hit.

I don’t think anyone has ever sustained a serious injury in even the most hotly contested game of cornhole (aka bags).
Surprisingly, it’s not that far away–in Ohio, just out of the snow belt. Jonathan, apparently you have never played extreme cornhole, another Christmas favorite. Though now that we’ve switched to an HSA, Julie will no longer let me play it.
Sure, blame it on the wife…. Admit it, now that you can’t hold my GPA over my head, you’re afraid to play.

I just wanted to tell you that I just finished reading your book, “Heaven is a Place on Earth” and I loved it. This has become one of my favorite books, along with a couple by Cornelius Plantinga, Jr. and a Dempster book that I’ve read a couple of times. I was debating whether or not to read it through again right now, or loan it to a friend at church. I decided to go ahead and buy a few copies and give them away and re-read my book. Your book is one of the rare books that made me want to finish it fast because it was so good, but I also didn’t want it to end, so I tried to read it slowly–you know what I mean?
Anyway, the book was fantastic! And along with some more copies of this one, I’ve just ordered your book, “Don’t Stop Believing”. I can’t wait to get it and dig in! Thank you so much for your ministry; it’s a wonderful supplement to our local ministry at our church out here in Denver.
If you have any other book recommendations, I’d love to know what you like to read; this way I’ll have other books to tide me over in-between your output.

Thank you for your encouraging words. I really enjoy writing, and it means so much when I hear from readers who like what I’ve done. My goal is to write books to serve the church, so I am especially grateful when pastors like yourself benefit from them.
Personally, Neal Plantinga is my favorite author, because as you know, he cares equally about what he says and how he says it. Other books which have impacted me are Al Wolters, “Creation Regained,” Kelly Clark, “Return to Reason,” and if you enjoy church history, Roland Bainton, “Here I Stand” (biography of Luther), Roger Olson, “The Story of Christian Theology,” and Bruce Shelley, “Church History in Plain Language” (a terrific introduction to church history for lay people, and also well written).
