John Piper interviews Rick Warren about The Purpose Driven Life, and at 36:14 he asks Warren his views about our final destiny. Warren admits that he hasn’t studied this topic as he should, and he isn’t sure whether our resurrected bodies and animals (Is. 65:25) will live forever in heaven or on a new earth. Personally, I’ll believe that animals will live forever in heaven when pigs fly.
Warren said that he wants to leave the question about the new earth open for now. So apparently he stands by the Platonic perspective of chapter 4 (the introduction) and 6 of the PDL.
Thanks to Matt Westerholm for sending me this link. He knows that I jokingly say that Warren is my theological nemesis (because of his Platonism and Hawaiian shirts), and I guess I’ll have to keep him there for now. Should Warren find the time to read on this topic, he might want to begin with Isaiah 65:17-25, 2 Peter 3:13, and Revelation 21:1-5.
