full atonement, can it be?

Here is a post on the atonement that I wrote for The Gospel Coalition. Drop over and say something nice, if you’re so inclined.

You might notice on my sidebar that I have a new book coming out. I’m probably biased, but I really like it. It’s not available in bookstores or Amazon until next week, so I’ll say more about it then. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer and get it directly from the publisher at a discount. Use the code on the sidebar, which is also good for The Last Enemy (which, as one disappointed reviewer noted on Amazon, is sadly not about the Battle of Britain).

  1. “Despite Doubt”. I can’t say I remember that one from the 1980s. Who sang that one? 🙂

Yep. That is my all-time favorite song, of songs that I’ve never heard of. This book is pretty much cursed now. Thanks for that.

    Dear Professor Wittmer:
Will you please post a definition of Penal Substitutionary Atonement (PSA) for me, and tell me if this is the majority view among those at GRTS and Cornerstone? How prevalent is this view among “bible believing” Churches and is there much variation in the definition of PSA among evangelicals?
    Respectfully submitted,
    Craig Stephens

  5. Craig:

The main idea is that Jesus bore the penalty of God’s wrath in our place. This is stated in the Cornerstone Confession, so every employee must subscribe to it. It is also the standard view in conservative Bible or Baptist or evangelical churches.

So I destroyed your book with a google search, then blew $12.99 + shipping on it, and did it all in less than 5 minutes time?! The www is a dangerous place. Anyway, thanks for the early bird discount.
